On my own journey
Well everyone is. I can’t do yours for you, but I can add value to your journey, and point you in the right direction.
This is me in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil after placing 3rd at the Brasiliero No-Gi 2025 Championship
Hi, I’m Serge Severenchuk. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is my life’s passion. I am a BJJ black belt and have been training in BJJ since August 2006. I’m an active competitor in both GI and No-Gi tournaments, and even did a bit MMA back in the day.
I train out of New York City and represent Marcelo Garcia Jiu Jitsu Academy. I also run a BJJ gym in Enfiled, NH, which I started while i was a postdoc at Dartmouth.
Major competition highlights:
3rd place at the Brasiliero No-Gi 2025 Championship [Brazilian Nationals] in master 1, middle weight, black belt division. One of top four IBJJF tournaments annually. Brasileiro is part of “Grand Slam” along with World Championship, European Championship and Pan American Championship.
Outside of BJJ, I received a PhD from UNC Chapel Hill, a top 10 Political Science program in the nation. There I specialized in political behavior/psychology and quantitative methodology. After UNC, I was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Rockefeller Center at Dartmouth College. Currently, I have a day job on Wall Street.
What makes my approach unique? I bring PhD rigor to studying Jiu Jitsu, and academic/Wall Street analytical approach to identifying and making improvements in Jiu Jitsu. I also believe by being present, intentional, and working on mental/psychological aspects of yourself you can progress 2x, 5x or even 10x faster. Also, I am a teacher at heart and view teaching as one of my callings in life.
I now offer 1x1 video consultation sessions on:
how to progress and improve your Jiu Jitsu game faster
how to build a comprehensive Jiu Jitsu game
how to work on mental and psychological aspects of the game
specific Jiu Jitsu technique problems/questions

focus during competition day
